The Search Van

At Camp Morrison, sometime in the mid-'80's

A 1969 Step Van,
the first vehicle Post 18 ever bought. Served as equipment hauler, bedroom, shelter from the rain, comm center, and who knows what else. Sold in the mid-90's to a construction company in Silverton for $500. They said it would be the cleanest rig in their fleet, which moved Rick to comment that he didn't want to see the rest of their fleet. It didn't have that many miles on it, but it did have a little Bondo, a lot of holes, a suspension that sagged to the right, a little rust here and there, possibly some smoke damage, and a lot of searches under its fenders.

The Boxes

Built by Loyal Smith (and probably others) out of plywood. There were more than a dozen of them, and they held food, cooking equipment, tools and whatnot. Most have been retired in favor of tuff boxes because most of the boxes weighed more than their contents, but at least one is still in use (above), holding tools in the back of the Suburban. The orange-and-green color scheme was Post 18's "signature", and is the basis for the color scheme on this page and the rest of our web site.

Sherry Eyerly Homicide

On December 18, 2007, William Scott Smith pled guilty to the kidnapping and murder of Sherry Eyerly on July 4 1982. Over the previous 25 years - starting at 7am on July 5, 1982 - dozens of Post/Crew 18 members donated hundreds of hours searching for Sherry or any evidence relating to her disappearance. Smith's confession brought closure not only to Sherry's family, but to all of the people who had worked to solve the crime over the years.

In February 2008 an arrest was made in another case Post 18 had been involved in, from 1986: Statesman-Journal story
